This is the fifth report from England’s National Audit Office. The aim of this paper is to assess the economic implications of properly integrating intensive home treatment services into the acute care pathway, so that they offer home treatment as an alternative to inpatient admission in suitable cases. A decision model was developed by the Centre for the Economics of Mental Health at King’s College London. Around 600 pounds ( approx. Can$ 1000) can be saved per patient if home treatment is considered in addition to inpatient treatment. NAO economic impact McCrone
