Canada is way behind in developing IHT services. The Hazelglen Service that I developed in Kitchener-Waterloo Ontario 30 years ago, is still the only one in the province.
British Columbia now has five IHT teams
This IHT team developed in 2016, the first and only one in the Province of Quebec, is unique ,in that it serves only acutely psychotic patients.
As described in this Canadian Broadcasting Company radio website, it has a budget of $ 1.3 million , a staff of 13, and treats 120 patients a year . It operates 15 hr/ a day, and the team can make up to 4 home visits per day
The team administrator estimates that treating these patients in hospital would cost twice as much
